So it was a typical day at work. Enter orders here, reply to emails there, and then at about 10:30, BAM! I got hit with this wave of aches and pains which usually means one thing: the flu. For the most part, I feel like I'm keeping it at bay. Tea, food, tylenol and a heating pad have minimized the achiness and it's not accompanied with the normal wanting-to-curl-up-and-die feeling, so I take that as a good sign. But I'm staying in bed the rest of the day in the hope that I can nip this in the bud. Now is so NOT the time to get sick.

Anywho, it's time for the Christmas clip of the day! Wooooo! Today's selection comes from one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time: "A Muppet Christmas Carol". I always thought Michael Caine made a good Scrooge, and played remarkably well off of an amphibious Bob Cratchit. Now the visual quality isn't that great, but the audio is pretty clear.

Back to bed for me. Must get well in time for David's birthday weekend!

OHAI! I'm so mad that I missed posting on the first day of December, and it will seem very copycat of me to do the whole "Post something Christmas-y each day of the month", but dangit I'm doing it anyway.

Today I bring you a video of a group that my stepmom introduced me to just yesterday. They're an acapella group called Straight No Chaser, and they are amaaaaaaaazing /Kelly. Maybe it's just because I'm a choir nerd, but their harmonies blow me away and the guys are quite hilarious. This is a video of them performing a very unique rendition of The 12 Days of Christmas. Enjoy won't you?

And this has nothing to do with Christmas, but it's 11 seconds of pure joy that I feel it is my duty to share with the world (ignore the bizarre music)

Not much news to report. Other than the fact that David becomes an old man turns 24 on Friday! He's got part 1 of his CFA test the next day so we're celebrating Saturday night with good friends, pizza and drinks. Can't wait!

I think that's all for me today. Happy December everyone!

P.S. I have no idea where all my Christmas icons went :(

Hi friends!  Hope you all had a wonderful, labor-less Labor Day.  I spent my day off reading two new books and finishing Mad Men season 1! Not too shabby eh?

Some Mad Men thoughts....

Where the Truth Lies )

Okay, now for really good stuff...

BIG HUGE REMINDER!

Tomorrow morning marks the very first installation of  LJ TOWNHALL MEETINGS!  I'll post the topic right here tomorrow morning and I would love love love to see some great discussion happen.  I haven't gotten a ton of responses in previous posts, but I'm still insanely excited about this! It's going to be fun guys, I promise.  So stop by for a few tomorrow, yes?

Final thought: I turn 22 in exactly one week :D

Hi friends! Long time no post! I have a good excuse though, as I started my job on Wednesday and it's been a flurry of activity ever since.  Let's break it down naw:

The Job

Guys, I love it. I've only worked two days, and I really really love it. Of course it helps that my boss is my aunt, whom I adore and no matter who I turn to for questions, there's a family member to answer them. And of course I won't always feel this way; there's still a lot to learn and I'm sure I'll make quite a few mistakes in the mean time. But I survived two particularly grueling days, as we just launched the digital edition of our magazine and got nearly 1000 sign ups within the first hour that all need to be manually processed. Thursday was nuts with all the work to be done before the three day weekend, and next week will be just as crazy. Like I said, though, I'm loving it and can't wait to learn the ins and outs of this business.

The Shameless Plug

Hey movie goers! Do you love those big summer blockbusters, with robots blowing stuff up and the Enterprise speeding through the galaxy? How about that boy wizard and his nail-biting Quidditch matches? Do you ever wonder how those movie magicians create these cinematic feats? Well have we got the magazine for you!

http://www.cinefex.com/

Perfect for the movie buff in us all!

Okay but seriously guys, it's a fantastic magazine. You've got articles written by Mama Sway and the September issue will be put together with the help of yours truly. I'm just sayin'.

The 4th

Like the committed couple we are, David and I split up the holiday between our families. He spent the day over here sharing lots of amazing food and laughs, and that night we headed out to the speedway to watch the fireworks with his family. It was one of the best Independence Days I've ever had, and I'm so glad I got to share it with him.

Today

Mom and I watched the last half of Wimbledon and oh my goodness, what a game! I don't usually watch tennis, but I got sucked in by the back-and-forth-will-he-won't-he game between Federer and Roddick. Now I'm working on cup of coffee #2 and getting ready for my day of reading and writing. The life of a working girl allows for much more pleasure reading and writing than the life of a student ever did. I like it :)

Announcements

I'm in the mood for a new header. Suggestions and offers to help an html dunce are encouraged :)

Happy birthday [info]danamulder !!!!!

Hope you all had a great holiday weekend!

So I thought I was in enough of a food coma to warrant my going to bed at 9:30.  That obviously didn't happen.  Though my body is physically exhausted, my mind doesn't seem to want to turn off, and really, after the day I've had, who can blame it?  First of all, my mom is an even bigger kid at Christmas time than I am, which is why she woke me up at 6:30 in the morning (she'd already been up since 5:00).  I didn't really mind; I'd had a hard time sleeping myself because I was unusually anxious to see what Santa brought.  We were on the run since then, with family coming at 10 and then all of us going over to family friends' for Christmas dinner at 2.  Even though we only got back at 5:30, it felt like 11.  I thought it'd be easy enough to hit the hay before 10:00 but alas, that just doesn't seem to be the case for this break.

I got some great gifts this year: Tiffany jewelry, Hairspray on DVD (!), clothes, money (thank goodness), more purses than I know what to do with, makeup, etc etc.  The big thing though was my new camera!  It's the exact same one I got earlier this year that I lost in a tragic jumping-up-and-down-because-my-sisters-won-homecoming-court accident.  Regardless, I'm happy to have it back and can't wait to use it on my fabuloso day in LA with Evan on Thursday.

Not much on the agenda for the rest of break; vacation in Carmel from the 3rd to the 6th but other than that, it'll be lounging around like a lazy bum (so different from what I've done so far).

I hope everyone had a great Christmas :)

Where the hell have I been?  One of the things I looked forward to most about this break was the opportunity to actually update this damn thing *feels like an uber-dork*  But things have been a complete whirlwind ever since I got home Sunday! At least it's the good kind of whirlwind, where I'm making myself busy with things I actually want to do as opposed to things that are flung on to me labeled as "mandatory."

Definitely slept in till 11:30 this morning.  I'm such a bum.  My psychotic dog jumping on my head didn't even phase me.  I just ignored her and went back to sleep.  That's what a physically draining semester this was, folks: even a hyper-active dog licking me in the face does nothing to me.  So I finally managed to roll out of bed (it may have had something to do with Mom coming in and saying "Caitlin, you need to get up.") and made plans with Amanda to brave the mall and get some Christmas shopping done.  It was actually quite productive, though we spent the majority of our time window shopping for ourselves (can I help it that there's a new H&M in our mall?).  I got Mom, Dad, and Katy taken care of and will finish the rest of my shopping after Friday when I get paid (yes, I'm aware that's four days before Christmas.  I'll deal with it).

This was probably the best conversation to come out of the entire shopping experience:

Amanda: "So I found a lucky penny the other day.  In my shoe."
Me: "....."
Amanda:  "Because it's like 'Penny! What are you doing in my shoe?'"
Me: "Pretty sure I have a theory for this already."
Amanda: "What is it?"
Me:  "You throw your clothes everywhere in your room.  You took off pants that had change in them, threw them next to a shoe, and a penny fell in.  The end."
Amanda:  "Man, I totally thought you were going to tell me you put a penny in my shoe."
Me:  "That would make absolutely no sense."

This is why I love Amanda Nicole.

Oh, and dear Verizon Wireless,

Send me my rebate stat.

Stat means now.

Seriously, if I don't get it in the next six weeks as promised by my rebate offer, I will not be a happy camper.  Grr.

Tomorrow is spending time with Mom day, followed by a sure to be cool double date on Thursday, followed by a Christmas tea with old friends (and a new baby!) on Friday.

God, I love break :)

Okay.  So.

Now that I'm home, and in pajamas, and sipping hot cocoa, and there's a fire in the fireplace, and my dog at my feet, and the Christmas tree is up, and I'm coming down off of a Josh Groban Christmas CD high...

Now I feel like I can write a legitimate entry.  So where to begin?

First of all...finals went well.  At least in my opinion, but then again, I've been so cracked out all week, it's hard to judge if I was writing well or just writing.  I guess we'll find out when grades are posted (which, knowing some of my professors, will be the week we go back to school.  Ugh.)

Second of all, I cannot even begin to explain how happy I am that I'm done with my RA job. "Happy" doesn't even really begin to cut it.  Especially this week when I was in check-out hell; residents knocking on my door every two seconds because "Oh actually, I know you're right in the middle of finishing a paper but can you check me out now instead of tomorrow afternoon, the time I originally signed up for?" or "Hey, I know you carved time out of your day to check me out right now but can I actually do it at 8 o'clock tomorrow morning?"  Whatever, not my problem anymore. Now I can just be a plain ol' resident, living with my beautiful Guenser in our Beta-riffic room :)

Third of all....well, I'm happy about a lot of things lately :D

Here's to three and a half weeks off!

Is there anything better than Thanksgiving leftovers?  I think not.  I had the best turkey sandwich of life for lunch today accompanied with some stuffing.  Oh man, it was tasty.  God bless the holidays.

I did absolutely nothing of importance today.  I laid around in PJ's till about 3 before I finally put myself together and went to dinner and a movie with Aunt Margie.  Sure beats going to the mall, that's for damn sure.

So I definitely cried watching "It's a Wonderful Life" last night.  I don't I've ever cried at that movie; I mean obviously I've always loved it but this was the first time I shed actual tears.  And then I cried listening to James Taylor on the way home tonight.  What's up with that?  Am I getting emotional in my old age?

And now I'm curled up in the big armchair, with Gracie by my feet and a sugar-free cinnamon dolce latte to my right, watching "The Family Man" with Mom.  This has been one great break :)

Whoooooooo doggy, what a day.  It started at 8:00 and has been going a mile a minute ever since.  It was a great day to be sure; good food, family, many things to be thankful for.  But what would any holiday be without a few things to make you shake your head and chuckle?

My grandmother (on my stepdad's side) asked me not once, but twice, if I was still in an English major.  Both times, the question was proceeded by "You know, you really should take some business classes to be safe."  And both times I responded with "Nope, I'm okay."  Oh well.

I am so incredibly full.  I had seconds, possibly thirds and about six cups of coffee (working on the sixth at least).  And after a crazy day, I'm now in pajamas, curled up in the blanket Mom made for me and watching George Bailey fall in love with Mary Hatch.  Not a bad day indeed.

P.S. "Enchanted" is amazing.  Amy Adams is a friggin' goddess.
